From PET Bottles to High-Quality PET Flakes: Understanding the Recycling Process

2 min read

Plastic recycling begins long before recycled material reaches a manufacturing facility. It starts with collecting used PET bottles and transforming them into a clean, consistent and reusable raw material.

At Anjay Fabtech, the focus is on converting post-consumer PET bottles into recycled PET flakes through a controlled recycling process designed around cleanliness, purity and consistency.

What Is PET?

PET, or Polyethylene Terephthalate, is widely used for beverage bottles, food packaging and other applications because of its strength, clarity and lightweight properties.

One of the important advantages of PET is that it can be recycled and converted into a valuable secondary raw material. Instead of allowing used bottles to become waste, recycling gives the material another opportunity to enter the manufacturing cycle.

How PET Bottles Become Recycled PET Flakes

The recycling process involves several important stages.

1. Collection & Sorting

Used PET bottles are collected and sorted to remove unwanted materials and separate PET from other plastics and contaminants.

2. Bottle Processing

The selected PET bottles are processed and reduced into smaller pieces, preparing the material for further cleaning and separation.

3. Washing & Cleaning

The material undergoes cleaning to remove dirt, labels, adhesives and other contaminants. Effective washing is an important part of producing cleaner recycled PET flakes.

4. Separation

Different materials and colours are separated to improve the quality and consistency of the recycled material.

5. Flake Production

After processing, the PET is converted into flakes. These flakes can then serve as a raw material for different downstream manufacturing applications.

Why Flake Quality Matters

For manufacturers, recycled PET is not simply about using recycled material. Consistency matters.

Factors such as cleanliness, colour separation, contamination levels and material consistency can influence how recycled PET performs in subsequent manufacturing processes.

This is why a controlled recycling process plays an important role in producing reliable recycled PET flakes.

Applications of Recycled PET Flakes

Depending on their specifications and intended use, recycled PET flakes can be used in applications including:

  • PET and APET sheets

  • Polyester staple fibre

  • PET strapping

  • Monofilament and yarn

  • Injection moulding

  • 3D filament

  • Other value-added recycled PET applications

Building a More Circular PET Industry

PET recycling connects collection, processing and manufacturing into a circular material cycle.

At Anjay Fabtech, the objective is to help transform discarded PET bottles into useful recycled material while supporting more responsible resource utilisation.

From used bottles to usable material, PET recycling creates a pathway for plastic to stay within the manufacturing cycle for longer.
